A long time ago, in a distant galaxy I created a painting called "The First Ducks on Mars."
It was and remains a popular image despite the fact that there was no explanation of exactly how these ducks managed to traverse millions of miles to the red planet. Because of this pressing need, I have decided to tell the story of their journey in a new book called, predictably, "The First Ducks on Mars".
I thought it would be interesting to share the seminal drawings that are key to the process of my creating a story. I tend to write visually, meaning that one image leads to another and another so I'm often surprising myself when mysterious and unexpected moments come into the process. Later, I will have to pay attention to writing real text and dialogue but to capture the body of the story I surrender to flights of fancy and see what sticks to my shoe.
The first drawings can be viewed in the "First Ducks on Mars" photo album. MICHAEL
